Madonna - Biography

Biography

Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie was born August 16, 1958, in Bay City, Michigan. Her mother, Madonna Louise, is of French-Canadian descent and her father, Silvio "Tony" P. Ciccone, was a first-generation Italian-American who worked as a Chrysler/General Motors design engineer. She was the third of six children. Her mother died of breast cancer when Madonna was a little girl.

At a young age, she convinced her father to allow her to take dance lessons. When she moved on to high school, not only was she a straight-A student but she was also a cheerleader, and was offered a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan. Her dance instructor convinced her to pursue a career in dance instead, though, and with just $35 in her pocket, she upped and moved to New York City.

Madonna signs a record deal

Madonna joined a band and got local play at dance clubs, attracting the attention of a rep from Sire Records. Her first release was “Everybody” in April 1982; it reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Chart. Her self-titled debut album followed and reached No. 8 on the U.S. albums chart.

Her next album, Like A Virgin, matched her "look" of fishnet stockings and rough-around-the-edges religious jewelry. It quickly became her first No. 1 on the U.S. albums chart, boasting hits like “Dress You Up” and “Material Girl.”

Madonna in vision quest

In 1985, she entered the world of acting and appeared in her first flick, Vision Quest. The soundtrack boasted her second No. 1 hit “Crazy For You,” which was nominated for a Grammy. Later that year, she appeared in the movie Desperately Seeking Susan, and Madonna started her first tour, the Like A Virgin Tour.

That year, she also appeared in Playboy and Penthouse for the first time, however without her knowledge. The mags printed black and white pics of her from the 1970s that were illegally run, and she tried to have the images blocked. When they weren’t, she openly criticized the media while capitalizing on the fame, appearing nude in the low-budget film A Certain Sacrifice (1985).

On the personal front, it was around this time that Madonna married actor Sean Penn while filming her video for “Material Girl.”

Madonna releases true blue and like a prayer

In 1986, Madonna released the album True Blue, which included the ballad “Live To Tell,” written for the flick At Close Range, starring Sean Penn. Four wildly popular singles followed: “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Open Your Heart,” “La Isla Bonita,” and “True Blue.”

Madonna’s fourth album, Like A Prayer, was a hit, but it elicited outrage from the Catholic Church. Racy songs like “Express Yourself” and controversial music videos featuring burning crosses created enough of a stir for Pepsi to pull out of a major endorsement deal with the risque artist. Her personal life was struggling too, and in 1989, Sean Penn and Madonna officially divorced.

Madonna appears in dick tracy and releases vogue

Madonna quickly got back on her feet and, in 1990, she starred alongside Warren Beatty in the movie Dick Tracy. The two were rumored to have had a relationship during the filming of the movie, however the duo quickly quashed the stir after the film's release. The flick featured Madonna’s anthem “Vogue,” her eighth No. 1 single. That year, she also released her first compilation album, The Immaculate Collection.

Madonna releases erotica

Always dabbling between music and acting, Madonna was a part of the star-studded cast of the movie A League of Their Own in 1991, working with Hollywood giants Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. She recorded the song “This Used to Be My Playground” for the film. That year, Madonna even started her own record and music publishing company, Maverick Entertainment.

In 1992, she released her most sexually charged album, Erotica, and the title track “Erotica” became the highest-debuting single in the U.S. Hot 100 Airplay chart, coming in at No. 2. She also published her first book, SEX.

Then, a year later, she appeared in two films, the erotic thriller Body of Evidence, which contained graphic scenes of S&M and bondage, as well as Dangerous Game, which was released straight-to-video.

The adventurous Madge didn’t stop there. In September 1994, Madonna met fitness instructor Carlos Leon and the two quickly became lovers.

Madonna in evita wins golden globe, records bond anthem

In November 1995, Madonna released Something to Remember, a compilation album of ballads. Then, a year later, Madonna’s most successful film hit the big screen: Evita. Her two songs on the soundtrack were “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” and “You Must Love Me,” the later garnering her an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song From a Motion Picture. She also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.

Later that year, Madonna gave birth to her first child, daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon.

Madonna’s 1998 studio album Ray of Light won three 1999 Grammy Awards. The hit single “Beautiful Stranger” was featured in the Mike Myers’ comedy Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

In 1999, Madonna, who had already cut ties with Carlos Leon, met English screenwriter and film producer Guy Ritchie. In August 2002, Madonna gave birth to son Rocco John Ritchie and married Guy Ritchie that December in Scotland.

In 2000, she appeared in the movie The Next Best Thing, another flick with a Madge hit, “American Pie,” a dance-infused cover version of the Don McLean original. She then went on to release the electronica album Music, as well as record the theme song for the James Bond film Die Another Day.

Madonna releases american life and performs at live 8

In typical Madonna fashion, she never took a break. She continued pursuing a range of projects, and in 2002, she starred in the movie Swept Away, directed by husband Guy Ricthie. A year later, her ninth studio album, American Life, came out. Her 2004 Re-Invention Tour was the highest-grossing tour of the year, raking in a whopping $125 million for the Material Girl. That year, Rolling Stone magazine ranked her No. 36 on their list of the greatest artists of all time.

Always the political activist, Madonna also participated in two international benefit concerts: the Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope and Live 8 in London.

Madonna and confessions on a dance floor

One of the things that’s made Madonna so successful is her adaptability. Her music has always reflected the latest club trends while setting a precedence at the same time. Case in point: Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madonna’s 10th studio album, produced four hit singles including “Hung Up,” “Get Together” and “Sorry” in 2005.

In 2006, Madonna traveled to Malawi to help build an orphanage and filed for adoption of a Malawi boy despite much controversy over the conditions of the adoption (given Madonna’s celebrity status). That same year, she became the face of the clothing store chain H&M, which resulted in the creation of M by Madonna, her own clothing collection. Her Confessions Tour started shortly after.

On December 13, 2007, Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Justin Timberlake. Fellow inductees included John Mellencamp and Leonard Cohen.

Madonna releases hard candy and 4 minutes, gets divorced

Without skipping a beat, Madonna came out with Hard Candy, her 11th studio album. It boasted collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, and Danja. The first single was the No. 1 hit “4 Minutes.”

In October 2008, it was announced that Madonna and her husband, Guy Ritchie, would be divorcing.

Carmen Electra - Biography

Biography

Originally names Tara Leigh Patrick, Carmen Electra was born on April 20, 1972, in Sharonville, Ohio. Carmen Electra's talents were evident when she was a child, as she attended the School for Creative and Performing Arts at only 9 years old.

In school, Carmen Electra began taking singing lessons and practicing her vocal talents. By the time she was a teenager, she was performing in musicals (as a dancer) and doing her own choreographies. Her ultimate ambition was to go to Los Angeles and sign a record deal. And by the tender age of 15, Carmen was on her way to realizing her dream.

Carmen Eectra Meets Prince

Carmen Electra decided to relocate to Minneapolis, where she resided with her sister and made a living as a model for Target department stores. After four years, the aspiring star moved to Los Angeles and only one week later ran into musical genius Prince, who decided that she should change her name to Carmen Electra.

Prince liked Carmen's look and style, and he signed her to his label, Paisley Park Records, in 1992. Unfortunately, despite all of Prince's efforts in helping Carmen Electra by promoting her and her new album, her music career failed miserably.

Her single "Go-Go Dancer" hardly got any airtime on MTV, and when the single hit store shelves in 1992, it didn't sell well.

Carmen Electra singled out by Mtv
Perhaps Carmen Electra's most noted move was posing for Hugh Hefner's magazine in 1996. The following year, she was chosen as the next host of MTV's Singled Out as a replacement for Jenny McCarthy. Although the deal was for 65 episodes, Carmen Electra was not as popular as Jenny and the show eventually fizzled. But she did get another chance as the host of Loveline, also on MTV.

Bigger things lay ahead for Carmen Electra, however, namely the role of Lani McKenzie on Baywatch Hawaii, in the 1997 and 1998 seasons (in the post-Pamela Anderson days).

Since then, Carmen's fame has only gone uphill. She was featured in a comic book, was the national spokesperson for Budweiser, and appeared in the 2000 sleeper comedy hit of the year, Scary Movie.

Carmen Electra weds Dennis Rodman
Carmen Electra's relationship with Dennis Rodman certainly didn't hurt her publicity. The two tied the knot in 1998 and separated only nine days later -- with Rodman claiming that he wasn't in the right state of mind at the time. The marriage was eventually annulled.

With a failed marriage behind her, Carmen Electra found her niche by taking on small film roles. In 2001, Carmen Electra appeared in Get Over It, Perfume and Sol Goode, and the following year, she was featured in Whacked! and Rent Control. In 2002, she also became a ringside reporter for Comedy Central's BattleBots and the host of Livin' Large.

Carmen Electra the Pussycat Doll
Carmen Electra's film career remained somewhat prolific in 2003, with appearances in the made-for-TV movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding and the feature films Uptown Girls and My Boss's Daughter. To the delight of men everywhere, Carmen Electra launched the self-explanatory DVD workout series, Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease. After all, she has surely been getting quite a workout as a featured performer in the Pussycat Dolls show.

Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro's Wedding
When MTV learned that Carmen Electra was going to marry her long-time beau, Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, they decided to give the pair the Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey treatment. As a result, the network launched 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave, a reality show about the months of planning leading up to the couple's November 2003 wedding. The show debuted in January 2004 (and the two divorced in February 2007).

In 2004, she appeared in the Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson comedy, Starsky & Hutch, and lent her voice to the animated comedy Lil' Pimp. She also added 2005's Getting Played, with Vivica A. Fox and Stacey Dash, to her filmography. That same year, Carmen Electra started the Naked Women's Wrestling League.

In 2007, Carmen Electra became the official spokesperson for Ritz Camera Centers, and she also became a playable character in Def Jam: Fight For New York.

While it is not mentioned in her official biography, we can only suppose that Teri started to develop her world-class body early in life, giving her the social confidence to become captain of Freemont High School's cheerleader squad, known as the Featherettes. Teri went to Hollywood with a friend to lend support in her friend's bid for an acting job. Teri also went for the part and ended up winning her first paying gig on Aaron Spelling's Love Boat, as part of the Pacific Princess' resident entertainers, The Mermaids.

From her first role, Teri went on to land some smaller TV roles and had her first big film part as an egomaniac actress in the 1989 satire, The Big Picture. After enjoying some time as a proud spokesperson for Radio Shack and appearing in made-for-TV movies like 2001's Jane Doe and Say Uncle, and 2003's Momentum, Teri was cast as single mom Susan Mayer in ABC's hit series, Desperate Housewives. Not only did the show enjoy a strong debut in the ratings, but Teri was awarded the Best Actress in a Television Series (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe in 2005.

On a personal note, Teri is a self-proclaimed animal lover who spends time with her family north of Los Angeles.

That same year she also costarred in Agent Cody Banks and Cheaper by the Dozen.

Lizzie McGuire completed its run in 2004, which gave Hilary Duff more time to concentrate on other movie roles as well as her music. She earned a $2.2 million paycheck for her starring role in A Cinderella Story, and also starred in the coming-of-age drama Raise Your Voice. Her self-titled sophomore album was released that September, and although it debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts, it sold considerably less than its predecessor. In 2008, Hilary Duff -- in addition to being ranked No. 81 on AskMen.com's Top 99, was cast in War, Inc., Safety Glass and Greta, released her album Dignity 2, and penned a song called "I Will" for Vanessa Hudgens' album.

Ashley Tisdale - Biography

Biography

It’s hardly surprising that Ashley Tisdale loves to shop. After all, the West Deal, New Jersey, native was first discovered in a mall when she was only 3 years old. “I was [there] with my mom” she recalls, “and this manager came up to us and asked if I wanted to be in commercials.” The answer, of course, was an emphatic "yes," and Ashley Tisdale was soon appearing in spots for big-name brands like J.C. Kate Bosworth - Biography

Biography

Born January 2, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, Catherine Ann Bosworth spent most of her childhood traveling throughout the United States, including San Francisco, Connecticut and Massachusetts. An award-winning equestrian, her big break came about in 1998 during a casting call for Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer.

Kate Bosworth figured that attending an audition would be a great experience, and the fact that the film focused on horses gave her that extra push to go ahead and attend the casting call. With little more than a role in a community theater production of Annie to her credit, Kate Bosworth was a natural and charmed her way into the supporting role of Judith, the female lead's best friend, but not before leaving the producers with her impromptu headshot -- a picture of Kate Bosworth from a Christmas family portrait.

Kate Bosworth in Young Americans

With the doors of Hollywood open to her at such an early age, Kate Bosworth was met with the age-old dilemma of school versus career. A member of the National Honor Society, she decided to continue her high-school education as well as her involvement with community sports. After an 18-month hiatus, she was drawn to Hollywood again in 2000, with back-to-back roles in The Newcomers and Remember The Titans, with Denzel Washington.

After landing the role of Bella on the short-lived WB series Young Americans, Kate Bosworth was also a rarity on television, as an actual teen actress portraying a teen.

Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush

Two years later, it was director John Stockwell's turn to reintroduce us to America's latest sweetheart with the surfing film, Blue Crush. Easily defined as a blend of Charlie's Angels and Beach Blanket Bingo, 2002's Blue Crush featured Kate Bosworth as a chambermaid/aspiring professional surfer. With the female cast sharing a beach house in Oahu for two months, they were forced to undergo a rigorous training regimen, which included seven hours of running, swimming, weight training, and surfing. According to Kate Bosworth, it wasn't easy: "Standing on a surfboard is like trying to stand on soap. You're going to fall."

But Kate Bosworth met the challenge head-on, and had the cuts and scars to prove it. She even ended up going to the hospital for a CAT scan after a nasty spill left her unconscious. The film's surprise strong opening meant that Kate Bosworth would have a whole new fan base, especially among the MTV crowd. As the poster girl for this "new wave" of girl power, Kate Bosworth was happy to portray a character she could relate to -- a young woman who was strong-willed, determined, independent, and sexy.

Kate Bosworth in Wonderland

In 2002, she also appeared in Roger Avary's The Rules of Attraction. The film explored the darker side of college life, with Kate Bosworth portraying a strung-out party girl. Leaving her wholesome prep-school image behind, she attracted the attention of director James Cox, who was in the midst of casting his latest film, Wonderland. Released in 2003, the film follows the life of legendary adult film star John Holmes and stars Val Kilmer in the lead role. Dyeing her hair brown for the part, Kate Bosworth portrayed Dawn Schiller, the real-life teenage lover of the X-rated king.

Kate Bosworth in Superman Returns

In 2004, Kate Bosworth had two projects: Beyond the Sea and Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! This was followed up by a 2005 role in Bee Season and then playing Lois Lane in the 2006 flick Superman Returns.

It was around this time that Kate Bosworth split up with her on-again, off-again romance with Orlando Bloom. Kate Bosworth also ranked No. 38 in AskMen's Top 99 Women of 2006.

Kate Bosworth in 21

In 2007, Kate Bosworth only had one major film project, The Girl In The Park.

However, 2008 picked up for Kate Bosworth. In January, she was named the new face for Calvin Klein Jeans. She also appeared in three movies: 21, Laundry Warrior and Veronika Decides To Die.
